Annie’s Progress with BHRT

2020-04-27T13:12:11-05:00

My bio-identical hormone replacement therapy story continues! I just had my second hormone pellet implant. I alternate sides each time that I go, that was a concern of mine since my first side was still tender. I filled out a brief questionnaire about how my symptoms have changed as well as recording my personal feedback. After I was called back to the room the practitioner sat down and compared my current ‘symptoms’ sheet and my last one. The symptoms were improved by over 40%! It’s funny how you tend to forget how badly you feel once you start feeling better! I [...]

3 Month BHRT Follow Up

2020-04-27T13:17:22-05:00

It has now been almost 3 months since I began my Bio-identical Hormone Replacement therapy with pellets. My family and friends have noticed a change in how my temperament is more relaxed, I don’t get agitated so quickly. I no longer have night sweats that soak my sheets or hot flashes in the middle of church service. I do notice that I sleep better but only when I take the nightly dose of progesterone. I have forgotten it a night or two and I noticed rather quickly. I think a lot of the positive mental outlook has been because of the [...]

Annie’s BHRT Journey Continued

2020-04-27T13:18:34-05:00

I have had the pellets in place for about 4 weeks now and just went in for a blood test. My levels have increased, and the doctor said that they would continue to do so, this appointment was just to help create a baseline. I have noticed some of my symptoms improve. I am getting less hot at night and that is helping me sleep better, she said that is in part from the Estradiol in the implant. She said that these would soon be alleviated altogether. I am very excited to see the changes happening even if they are slow. [...]

Annie’s BHRT Journey

2020-04-27T13:20:01-05:00

My journey with Bio-identical Hormone Replacement (BHRT). I am a 56 year woman that had a hysterectomy at 32 after my daughter was born. They told me that they removed my uterus only so I should not have any hormonal issues until I approach menopause. I figured that was light years away so I thought nothing of it. Then I blinked, and was 52 years old. Twenty years had just slipped right by overnight. I began to notice that I was not sleeping as good as I used to and that I was getting warm at night. Then the symptoms increased [...]

Bio-Identical Hormones vs. Synthetic Hormones

2020-04-27T13:24:12-05:00

Bio-identical hormones are very different from synthetic treatments, sometimes having opposite cellular effects. Natural hormones compounded from plant materials with the same structure that the body produces. Synthetic hormones are quite different. Some commonly prescribed hormones are Premarin and Provera (medroxyprogesterone acetate). Premarin is used to replace estrogen and is derived from pregnant horses. It is largely reported that women that begin Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) see an improved quality of life due to the relief of the symptoms associated with peri-menopause or menopause. Many symptoms of menopause can truly affect daily living such as hot flashes, weight gain, loss [...]

BHRT – What to Expect with the First Insertion

2020-04-27T13:26:25-05:00

I went for my first ‘insertion’ and it went well. I was nervous. The nurse I met with called me back and explained my lab results to me. I believe that she used the description ‘bone dry’ to describe my hormone levels. She explained that I would be getting two pellets, one with estradiol and one with testosterone. I would also take a dissolvable tablet at night before bed, this was progesterone. I am looking forward to the progesterone because she said it would help me sleep. I was then instructed to get up on the exam bed on my side [...]

What is BHRT?

2020-05-18T13:07:26-05:00

Bioidentical hormone replacement therapy addresses treatment options to alleviate the symptoms caused by imbalanced hormones or a natural drop in hormone production due to aging. Treatments are often called “bioidentical” or sometimes “natural” because the types of hormones used are biologically identical on a molecular level to those produced in the body. Some of the hormones that BHRT works to balance include those associated with youth and fertility, such as estrogen, progesterone, and sometimes testosterone. The years prior to menopause, women typically produce less of these hormones. This can lead to symptoms of vaginal dryness, tiredness, hot flashes and night sweats just to name [...]

Hormone Therapy?

2020-04-29T13:40:05-05:00

Hormone Therapy   Hormone replacement might make you think of over-sized athletes and sweaty team jerseys. The stigma of hormone therapy or rather, hormone abuse, tends to often circle back to testosterone. Much of what we hear about in the media are the highly exaggerated extreme cases; we all know this, but we still listen as if it were the gospel truth. The bottom line is that the answer to so many deadly ailments do not lie in the drugs that treat the condition, but rather in educating people to prevent the ailment altogether. Unfortunately, this is not information that the [...]

BHRT for women-The Basics

2020-05-01T11:53:54-05:00

One thing is inevitable, we are all aging. We all age at the exact same pace, and there is no stopping it. As a woman continues to age, she will likely start having symptoms of hormonal imbalances indicative of menopause. Estrogen, progesterone and testosterone are the reproductive hormones that when imbalanced can cause a plethora of symptoms. A hormonal imbalance is ultimately when your hormones are not where they should be, meaning your body could be producing not enough of a hormone or even too much of one. These imbalances can cause someone to notice fatigue, loss of libido, night sweats, [...]

Andropause: A Man’s Transition Period

2020-05-01T12:03:59-05:00

Men and women age differently, but age-related hormone fluctuations affect men and women in similar ways. Did you know that men can go through a type of menopause? Labeled "andropause" because it is not as defined as female menopause, male menopause affects a small portion of the aging male population. Andropause shares similar features with menopause, but it is not as severe as what some women experience once their reproductive years end. What is andropause? Testosterone is a type of androgen, which is where the name "andropause" comes from. Known mainly as a sex hormone, testosterone also affects the tenor of [...]
